Cirque du Soleil premieres new show Alizé in Berlin

The premiere of Cirque du Soleil's new show 'Alizé' was celebrated with applause and cheers in Berlin. Invited guests, including many celebrities, clapped during the performance at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. The production marks the circus's first permanent location in Europe.

The new production 'Alizé' combines acrobatics and magic in a story about teenager Alizé, who dives into a dream world. The Theater am Potsdamer Platz transforms into the dream landscape that Alizé explores. Trapeze artists float above the audience, a tightrope walker appears weightless, and trampolinists mirror the ups and downs. Clowns appear intermittently, accompanied by mysterious small human-like puppets.

Producers employ light and trick techniques to make people and objects disappear and reappear. At the start, a windstorm on stage sends small gusts through the audience area. The music ranges from light harp sounds to driving drums and basses.

The ensemble consists of about 40 artists from approximately 20 countries. Founded around 40 years ago in Canada, Cirque du Soleil is renowned worldwide for its stage shows. It tours internationally and runs resident productions, such as in Las Vegas. In Berlin, 'Alizé' adds a new cultural attraction to Potsdamer Platz, following the Blue Man Group's departure in August after 21 years.
