Dan Evans responds to Wimbledon wild card snub

Dan Evans was not granted a men's singles wild card for Wimbledon despite a special request tied to his Olympic sacrifice. The 36-year-old will instead attempt to qualify for the tournament in what is his final season. Wimbledon announced the wild cards on Wednesday.

Evans shared an Instagram story highlighting his decision to give up 500 ranking points from the 2023 Washington Open to play doubles with Andy Murray at the Paris Olympics. That choice contributed to his ranking drop to 244th. He received a doubles wild card with Henry Searle but was passed over for the singles main draw.

The All England Club awarded singles wild cards to Grigor Dimitrov, Stan Wawrinka, Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Jack Pinnington Jones, Toby Samuel, Felix Gill and Harry Wendelken. Evans has faced similar treatment earlier this grass season after being denied a main-draw wild card at Queen's Club.

"I think what some people have forgotten is I'm a professional tennis player, and I wouldn't be playing if I wasn't prepared or ready to play or fit to play," Evans said. Qualifying for Wimbledon begins on June 24.
