Serena Williams leaves singles Wimbledon return open

Serena Williams has not ruled out a possible singles appearance at Wimbledon despite not receiving one of the initial seven wild cards for the women's draw. She is confirmed to play doubles alongside sister Venus Williams.

During a post-match press conference in Berlin on June 16, Williams responded to questions about the remaining singles wild card with laughter. "Oh my gosh, there’s still some (wildcards) left? I’d better get to practice," she said. "Would you be interested that I took it? You think I’m ready for singles? That’s the question of the hour, right? I don’t know."

Wimbledon is scheduled to begin on June 29. Williams last played a singles match at the 2022 US Open. She has been confirmed for doubles at the tournament for the first time in a decade after receiving a wild card with Venus.

The 44-year-old recently returned to competition in doubles events. She won one match at the HSBC Championships before losing in the first round of the Berlin Open alongside Karolina Muchova.
