DCI boss Amin Mohammed elected to Interpol executive committee

Amin Mohammed, director general of Kenya's Criminal Investigations, has been elected as Africa's delegate to the Interpol Executive Committee. The election occurred at the Interpol General Assembly in Morocco, where he will serve a three-year term alongside Tunisia's Issam Fetoui. This role aims to boost Africa's priorities in global policing efforts.

The Interpol General Assembly in Morocco on November 27, 2025, saw Amin Mohammed, Director General of Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), elected to the Interpol Executive Committee. He will represent Kenya and Africa as the regional delegate for a three-year term. Tunisia's Issam Fetoui was also elected to a similar position.

The National Police Service (NPS), under which the DCI operates, welcomed the election as a sign of international trust in Kenya's security commitments. In a statement, NPS noted: “It reinforces Kenya’s vision for a safe and resilient Africa, one that advances innovation, deepens meaningful partnerships, and enhances cooperation to counter cyber threats, terrorism, illicit trafficking, and financial crimes, as well as crimes targeting women and children.”

Amin, who began his career as a Cadet Inspector in 1989 and advanced through the ranks, thanked President William Samoei Ruto for his nomination. “I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility as Delegate for Africa to the INTERPOL Executive Committee. Your confidence in my candidacy reflects Kenya's commitment to international policing and the importance of partnership across our regions,” Amin stated. He added: “I will continue to advocate for the tools, capacities, and cooperation needed to dismantle criminal networks and defend the rights and lives of those who depend on us the most.”

In his new position, Amin plans to elevate Africa's voice within Interpol, promote technology-driven policing, enhance joint operations, and intensify action against human trafficking and child exploitation.

Meanwhile, Inspector General Douglas Kanja serves as President of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), leading efforts against transnational crime across the continent.

Other key elections included Lucas Philippe of France as Interpol President for four years, Wang Yong of China as Vice-President for Asia for three years, Kazumi Ogasawara of Japan as Delegate for Asia, and Stefano Carvelli of Italy as Delegate for Europe.
