A Delaware man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend. Nobert Matara admitted to stabbing Tracy Nyariki 58 times and dismembering her body in December 2024.
Nobert Matara, 33, received the mandatory life sentence on June 26 after changing his plea to guilty on April 26. He admitted to waiting at Nyariki's apartment in Newark, Delaware, before attacking the 31-year-old on the morning of December 17, 2024.
Police conducted a welfare check at the apartment on December 20 after Nyariki failed to appear for work. Officers discovered suspicious circumstances and identified Matara as a person of interest. Detectives later found her dismembered remains in a suitcase inside his car at a motel in Aberdeen, Maryland.
Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings credited the New Castle County Police Department and her office's trial team for securing justice in the case. A GoFundMe page set up by Nyariki's family remains active for donations.
