Dobrindt raises threat level in Germany to high

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warns of a high risk of attacks in Germany. He bases the assessment on recognizable plans targeting infrastructure and individuals.

Alexander Dobrindt of the CSU stated in a preliminary report for Welt am Sonntag that the reporting and intelligence situation had prompted him to raise the threat level. “This means that the risk of attacks must be expected in Germany at any time,” he said.

Attack plans were clearly recognizable and targeted German infrastructure as well as persons or facilities. Dobrindt announced plans to develop the intelligence services into real secret services.

On August 13 the federal cabinet is scheduled to discuss a reform of intelligence law. It would grant the services intervention powers in certain danger situations.
