Eden Power and China sign deal to establish green tech hub

Ethiopian firm Eden Power has partnered with China's Southern Power Grid Technology to create a green technology hub, aiming to boost local manufacturing and job creation in the energy sector.

On January 26, 2026, representatives from Ethiopian Eden Power and China's Southern Power Grid Technology (CSGT) signed a strategic partnership agreement to develop a green tech hub. The deal was inked by Hamde Ebrahim on behalf of Eden Power and Jiang Junpeng, general manager of CSGT's International Development Department, with Bayissa Bedada, PhD, the State Minister of Innovation and Technology, in attendance. This collaboration seeks to foster technological sovereignty in Ethiopia's energy landscape by enabling local production of green energy solutions. Eden Power, an electro-mechanical engineering company, specializes in power generation equipment, water pumping systems, agricultural machinery, solar solutions, and electrical control systems. Working alongside CSGT and in coordination with the Ethiopia Electric Utility (EEU), the partnership will create jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and supply chains. The rollout unfolds in three phases: initial technology transfer and maintenance training, followed by local assembly operations beginning in 2028, and culminating in full-scale manufacturing oriented toward exports. This initiative builds a framework for sustained energy cooperation between the two nations, emphasizing innovation and self-reliance in green technologies.
