Eduardo Bennet to head new strategic unit at Security Ministry

Minister Martín Arrau appointed Eduardo Bennet to lead the Unidad Ministerial Estratégica, which will coordinate task forces against organized crime.

Security Minister Martín Arrau decided to revive the Strategic Unit that had been dissolved by former Minister Trinidad Steinert. The unit, now called Unidad Ministerial Estratégica, will coordinate seven task forces announced by President José Antonio Kast.

Eduardo Bennet, with nearly 30 years of executive experience at companies such as Arauco and Komatsu, was chosen to head the UME. Bennet worked more than a decade in Peru, Mexico and the United States.

“I have been a manager and coordinator for 25 years,” Bennet said. Pilar Lizana, an organized crime expert, also joined as an advisor.

The task force for the Macrozona Sur will begin operating this Thursday with its first session.
