On January 27, 2026, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties in transport and industry.

Al-Wazir highlighted the extensive collaboration between Egypt’s Ministry of Transport and American companies, particularly in the railway sector. He pointed to partnerships with General Electric—now Wabtec—and Progress Rail, which have enhanced railway traction power and improved passenger services.

He also noted cooperation with Honeywell, alongside Germany’s Siemens, in implementing Egypt’s high-speed electric rail network. Additionally, U.S.-based Hill International serves as a consultant for the East and West Nile monorail projects.

The minister stressed that several American factories are operating in the Egyptian market, reflecting the government’s interest in expanding cooperation. Al-Wazir extended an invitation to American firms to invest in Egypt, emphasizing promising opportunities.

Maritime transport emerged as a key focus, with Egypt boasting 19 commercial ports. Al-Wazir urged U.S. companies to participate in managing, operating, and concessing port terminals, especially international ones at Berenice, Sokhna, Safaga, Alexandria, and Gargoub.

Egyptian ports have attracted major global operators and shipping lines, integrated with the national high-speed rail network. He called for increasing U.S. manufacturing facilities in Egypt, particularly in new and renewable energy sectors, given the favorable investment climate.

Landau reaffirmed the strength of Egyptian-American relations and U.S. interest in economic expansion, citing comprehensive development and successful U.S.-backed projects. He mentioned meeting the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, whose members praised government collaboration. Landau emphasized broadening ties in renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, aviation infrastructure, technology, and maritime terminal management.
