Egypt launches digital platform to manage Nile riverbank lands

Egypt's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has launched a digital platform to document and manage state-owned lands along the Nile River.

Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam reviewed progress on the new system during a meeting on Sunday according to a ministry statement. The first phase covers Dakahlia where a comprehensive database has been created for each plot of land including information on beneficiaries, land area, land-use fees, payment status, cadastral maps and satellite imagery.

The platform forms part of the ministry’s Egypt Water 2.0 digital transformation programme. It is designed to provide accurate up-to-date data to support decision-making, improve governance and streamline administrative procedures.

Sewilam said the system would enable authorities to monitor Nile riverbank lands in real time, detect encroachments, track the payment of land-use fees and ensure compliance with ministry regulations. He directed officials to expand the database to cover all governorates bordering the Nile.
