Akil Godsey, frontman of Baltimore hardcore band End It, has spoken publicly for the first time about a June 5 incident at Lithuanian House in Toronto. The event involved a fan in a banana costume and drew significant online criticism.
Godsey posted a video on Instagram responding to the backlash, including racism and death threats. He stated that critics had misunderstood the band, noting, “We’re a hardcore band. We do hardcore things.”
The original incident occurred during a performance when Godsey invited the crowd to remove the fan’s costume. The fan later posted on Instagram that he was an unwilling participant whose clothing was taken at the band’s direction.
Godsey suggested the band might disband amid the fallout but added that he would be fine either way. He told viewers not to assume details about the group.
End It formed in 2017 and released its debut album Wrong Side of Heaven last August via Flatspot Records. The band was removed from posters for an upcoming Hatebreed European tour.
