Engineered Garments explores hippie influences in Spring 2027 collection

Designers Kenta Miyamoto and Kunimasa Odagi presented the Engineered Garments Spring 2027 menswear collection in a Paris showroom. The lineup drew light inspiration from hippie style while expanding on the brand's established military-based framework with new fabrics and details.

Miyamoto and Odagi, in their fourth season leading the brand founded in 1999, revisited hippie themes from the archive about a decade ago. They incorporated subtle psychedelic waves, groovy block-print ikats, and dashiki-like tunics without using tie-dye or bell bottoms.

The collection featured vivid madras camp shirts, seersucker made from spongy bathing-suit material, tapestry-like jacquards, and cotton shirts with loopy motifs. New items included baggier shorts with longer inseams, a pullover based on a Ben Davis work shirt, a medical dressing gown-adapted shirt, and a wraparound pleated apron skirt inspired by a kilt.

Miyamoto highlighted hopsack fabric for unlined casual tailoring and noted a bright orange accent color. “Not made because of the Knicks,” he said, with a smirk. “But it could be.”
