Exhibition honors 100 years of “El juguete rabioso” at Centro Cultural Recoleta

The Centro Cultural Recoleta opened an exhibition dedicated to Roberto Arlt’s first novel, marking 100 years since its October 1926 publication. The show features historic editions, illustrations and an Underwood typewriter replica. Curated by Sylvia Saítta and Juan Maisonnave, it shares the venue with a Jorge Luis Borges tribute.

The exhibition “El juguete rabioso: 100 años” gathers covers from editions published over a century, a copy of the first edition by Editorial Latina and works by artists including Carlos Alonso and Eduardo Iglesias Brickles.

Curator and CONICET researcher Sylvia Saítta noted that the novel reflects “the violence unleashed by unfulfilled promises of progress”. She also pointed out that Borges praised Arlt’s work on several occasions.

The exhibition is open from 25 June at Junín 1930, Tuesday to Friday 12–21 and weekends 11–21, with free admission.
