One month before the first round of municipal elections in Laval, incumbent divers gauche mayor Florian Bercault faces mainly Samia Soultani-Vigneron, the right and center candidate, and a Lutte ouvrière list. Lists from the insoumis and Rassemblement national are still awaited. Bercault, elected in 2020 at age 30, enjoys broad left-wing support.
The campaign for municipal elections in Laval, prefecture of Mayenne, is gaining momentum. Incumbent mayor Florian Bercault, divers gauche and unaffiliated, held his first meeting on Saturday, January 31. Aged 30 when elected in June 2020, he described himself as « more combative than in 2020 ».
A Laval native, graduate of Sciences Po and HEC, and former business leader, Bercault was relatively unknown in 2020. He was backed by former socialist mayor Guillaume Garot, who served from 2008 to 2012, then as deputy minister for agri-food from 2012 to 2014, and MP for Mayenne.
Today, Bercault unites nearly the entire left: the French Communist Party, Socialist Party, Place publique, Les Ecologistes, Génération.s, and the Left Radical Party. During the press presentation of these supports in early December 2025, he called this gathering « unprecedented from the first round of Laval's municipals ». In 2020, the two divided left lists finished behind divers centre candidate Didier Pillon's list.
Opposing him is Samia Soultani-Vigneron for the right and center, alongside a Lutte ouvrière list. Candidacies from the insoumis and Rassemblement national remain pending one month before the vote.
