Fittipaldo expects Joey Porter Jr. extension talks to go down to the wire

Pittsburgh Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo believes contract negotiations with cornerback Joey Porter Jr. will extend until late in training camp or just before the regular season.

Fittipaldo stated that the deal is likely to reach the 11th hour before resolution.

"Yes, I think it will get done before the season, but I don’t expect it to get done early in camp unless Porter is motivated to sign. If he’s willing to hold in I think it might be a while until something happens," Fittipaldo said.

He projected the annual value around $24 million or $25 million. Contract talks across the league must conclude before the regular season begins.

Other top cornerbacks such as Christian Gonzalez and Devon Witherspoon could influence the market if they sign first. Fittipaldo noted that delaying the agreement carries risks for both sides.
