Fornaroli set for Haas F1 test at Jerez

Formula 2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli will test for Haas at the Spanish circuit this week. The 21-year-old is scheduled to drive last year's car on Wednesday and Thursday as part of a two-day programme.

Fornaroli made his Formula 1 session debut less than a week earlier with McLaren in FP1 at the Barcelona Grand Prix. He finished fifth, 0.8 seconds behind pacesetter George Russell.

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella praised the Italian's performance. "I’m very happy with his attitude, speed and consistency," Stella said.

"Leonardo is definitely an asset for Formula 1 and we want him to drive," Stella added. "He could certainly do that for McLaren Racing in the future, but at the same time we are working together to explore every opportunity that may arise in Formula 1."

Haas reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa is also expected to take part in the Jerez test.
