FIA F2選手権王者のレオナルド・フォルナローリが、今週スペインのヘレス・サーキットでハースのテストを行う。21歳の同選手は、2日間のプログラムの一環として水曜日と木曜日に昨年のマシンをドライブする予定だ。
フォルナローリは、1週間足らず前のバルセロナGPのFP1でマクラーレンからF1セッションデビューを果たしたばかりだ。その際はトップタイムを記録したジョージ・ラッセルから0.8秒差の5位に入っている。
マクラーレンのチーム代表を務めるアンドレア・ステラは、このイタリア人ドライバーのパフォーマンスを称賛し、「彼の姿勢、スピード、一貫性に非常に満足している」と語った。
さらにステラは「レオナルドは間違いなくF1にとって貴重な存在であり、我々は彼にドライブさせたいと考えている。将来的にマクラーレン・レーシングで彼を起用する可能性も十分にあるが、同時にF1で生じうるあらゆる機会を探るために協力している」と付け加えた。
なお、ハースのリザーブドライバーである平川亮も、今回のヘレスでのテストに参加する見込みとなっている。
