The governors of Chocó and Valle del Cauca stated at a summit that territories receive more responsibilities without the resources needed to carry them out.
Nubia Carolina Córdoba Curi, governor of Chocó, and Dilian Francisca Toro Torres, governor of Valle del Cauca, took part in the Summit: Leadership and Economic Development, Pillars for an Equality Agenda in Colombia.
Córdoba noted that the decentralization model has limitations and called for a Competencies Law to redefine functions between the Nation and the territories. “Each time we have greater competencies without the real capacity to execute them,” she stated.
Toro Torres agreed that laws must include sufficient financing and highlighted programs in her department such as zero-interest credits and care economy projects. Both governors indicated that greater female participation must translate into concrete results for the regions.
