The Harari region culture, heritage and tourism bureau has carried out multiple projects to develop and preserve historic sites and increase tourism benefits.
Amir Ramadan, director of heritage at the bureau, said various projects have been completed in recent years to make ancient sites convenient and attractive for visitors.
Community participation enabled the construction of more than 22 kilometres of internal roads without any government budget allocation. Redevelopment around the 6,114 square metre Jegol wall created green spaces.
These efforts generated jobs for over 7,000 citizens and increased tourist flows and revenue. Future work on world heritage protection at Jegol will continue with greater intensity.
