The canal boat Juno ran aground in the Trosa archipelago on Tuesday afternoon. Around 50 passengers were evacuated to Trosa with no injuries reported.
The vessel, built in 1874 and the world's oldest registered passenger ship with cabins still in traffic, was traveling from Stockholm via Trosa when it grounded at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
Divers inspected the hull and the boat was not taking in water. The sea and air rescue center decided with the shipping company to evacuate five hours later.
The company assessed it safe to carry out its own evacuation, says rescue leader Anders Larsson. Boats were requisitioned to bring passengers ashore in Trosa.
