홍콩 배수청(Drainage Services Department)은 광저우 소재 화남이공대학교(South China University of Technology)와 협력하여 빅데이터 분석과 AI를 통합한 3D 홍수 시뮬레이션 신규 모델을 개발했다. 링고 목 윙청(Ringo Mok Wing-cheong) 배수청장은 "이는 홍콩을 미래 지향적이고 기후 회복력이 강한 도시로 만들기 위한 노력의 일환"이라고 밝혔다. 강우 및 조위 나우캐스팅(nowcasting)을 위한 기상 통계 등 다양한 데이터셋을 학습한 이 모델은 실시간 홍수 시뮬레이션을 생성하며, 3차원 공간에서 홍수의 역동적인 변화 과정을 보여준다. 이 모델은 완차이의 킹인레인(King Yin Lane), 정관오(Tseung Kwan O), 타이포(Tai Po), 쿤통의 추이핑강(Tsui Ping River) 및 람춘강(Lam Tsuen River) 등 고위험 지역의 잠재적 홍수에 대한 비상 대응 계획을 사전에 수립하는 데 도움을 줄 예정이다.
