Industry ministry launches new national industrialization strategy

The Ministry of Industry has launched the New National Industrialization Strategy (SBIN) as a long-term framework for industrial development toward Golden Indonesia 2045. This strategy aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita vision, positioning the industrial sector as the backbone of economic independence. The launch occurred at the Ministry of Industry's 2025 Work Meeting in Jakarta on Monday (27/10).

The New National Industrialization Strategy (SBIN) is designed as a response to global changes such as the COVID-19 pandemic, trade wars, and energy transitions. According to Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, SBIN is not merely a sectoral policy but a national strategy to ensure Indonesia's industry grows and remains sovereign. "SBIN is not just a sectoral policy of the Ministry of Industry, but a national strategy to ensure that Indonesia's industry not only survives but grows and is sovereign," he stated at the opening of the Work Meeting.

SBIN is based on four main pillars: resource-based industrialization for commodities like nickel, palm oil, and coal to add value; ecosystem development through upstream-downstream integration, human resources, and infrastructure; technology mastery for productivity; and environmental sustainability principles. Domestic market protection is a priority, as 80 percent of industrial output is absorbed domestically, with strengthened Local Content Requirements (TKDN), tariffs, and non-tariffs to control imports.

The ministry also focuses on export expansion, particularly battery-based electric vehicles leveraging nickel advantages, and investments in high value-added sectors like strategic minerals, basic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics components, and food. Human resource strengthening through vocational education and industry linkages, adaptive regulatory reforms, and inter-ministerial synergies with entities like ESDM, ATR/BPN, and Finance are key. The halal industry is prioritized with BPJPH coordination for supportive certification.

The minister emphasized upstream-downstream linkages, such as in palm oil and nickel, supported by factors like raw materials, logistics, energy, and innovation. Lessons from Japan (algae-based industry), China (coal to chemical), and Turkey (market protection) drive thematic industrial zones. "We want a resilient, competitive, and sustainable industry. Industrialization must provide real benefits to the people, create quality jobs, and bring a better future," the minister asserted. SBIN is expected to realize Asta Cita through collaboration and independence.
