Infonavit announces special measures for Veracruz flood victims

The National Workers' Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) will implement extraordinary supports for 16,106 beneficiaries affected by floods in Veracruz. These measures include payment deferrals and additional aid, following instructions from the president of the Republic. Director General Octavio Romero Oropeza expressed solidarity with victims in the northern part of the state.

Floods on October 9 and 10 in Veracruz impacted 16,106 Infonavit beneficiaries in 22 municipalities, mainly in the northern part of the state. During a press conference in the port of Veracruz, where he checked progress on Bienestar Housing, Director General Octavio Romero Oropeza announced special measures to support the victims.

“Derivado de los eventos meteorológicos ocurridos en días pasados y por instrucciones de la Presidenta de la República; desde el Infonavit se están tomando medidas extraordinarias para quienes resultaron afectados”, commented Romero Oropeza. He noted that more specific figures on the damage level would soon be available.

Key actions include deferring credit payments for six months in affected municipalities. Additionally, a 25,000-peso supplementary support to damage insurance will be provided. For damaged homes, beneficiaries can access the Mejoravit program for rehabilitation and repair.

These measures also cover overdue credits and extend to employer obligations with automatic deferrals, without affecting beneficiaries. Fiscal actions will be suspended, and administrative procedures facilitated. Infonavit offices in Poza Rica are already receiving people with severely affected homes, offering these emergency programs.

Romero Oropeza assured that the institute stands in solidarity with those affected in Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, and Querétaro, though the primary focus is the coastal state following the recent devastating rains.
