The Industrial Training Fund launched screening for its Skill-Up Artisans Programme on Tuesday in Lagos, targeting 100,000 participants.
The exercise, which captured more than 3,000 artisans on its first day, offers free technical training, international certification and job placement support in trades including plumbing, tailoring, welding and electrical installations.
Mr Hassan Sauman of the ITF said the programme forms part of efforts to deliver President Bola Tinubu’s transformation agenda. He noted that participants will receive three months of training to meet global standards, followed by industry licensing and toolkits.
Trainees expressed support for the initiative. Mr Tijani Kabiru said it would help artisans improve their skills and the national economy, while Mrs Olabisi Adetoro, a tailor of 14 years, welcomed the chance to upgrade her finishing and packaging techniques.
