Jan. 6 rioter arrested for threatening teen murder defendant

A man pardoned for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack has been arrested in Texas after allegedly threatening to kill a teenager on trial for murder.

Edward Jacob Lang, 31, was arrested on June 10 and booked into the Collin County jail on a charge of making a terroristic threat. Court documents say he was recorded on a livestream saying he planned to kill Karmelo Anthony outside the courthouse.

Video from June 4 shows Lang confronting Anthony supporters and saying, "He won't be playing basketball. I will be waiting outside this courthouse. Guess what? Headshot. Done." Lang had also been arrested days earlier for trespassing at the stadium where the killing occurred.

Anthony, who is Black, was convicted on June 9 of murdering Austin Metcalf, who was white, during a high school track meet in Frisco on April 2, 2025. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison. The case drew debate over race and bias after an all-white jury delivered the verdict.

Lang spent four years in prison for his Jan. 6 actions before receiving a pardon from President Donald Trump in January 2025. He remains in custody on a $250,000 bond.
