The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has reserved judgment on North West businessman Suliman Carrim’s application to postpone his testimony. The ruling will be delivered on a date still to be announced. Evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim SC opposed the application and presented data on Carrim’s movements.
On Friday 24 July 2026 the commission heard Carrim’s fifth postponement request. Carrim, who suffered a heart attack in April this year, had been declared medically unfit to testify. His application followed claims that he visited a Durbanville mall in Cape Town earlier this month.
Advocate Adila Hassim SC presented CCTV footage and cellphone geolocation data showing Carrim spent extended periods outside his medical facility. She argued the evidence contradicted affidavits from his wife and doctor and requested an independent medical assessment.
Commission chair Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga noted that Carrim has not supplied requested company financial information since March. Judgment on the postponement was reserved for a later date.
