Junior Boks retain world title against France U20

The Junior Boks defeated France U20 16-5 in Tbilisi to win a second successive World Rugby Junior World Championship title.

Kevin Foote’s side became the first South African U20 team to win back-to-back titles with the victory at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium. Flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed kicked four points from penalties and a conversion while lock Markus Muller scored the only try for the Junior Boks in the 67th minute. France replied with a try from flank Raphaël Audebert.

The match kicked off 45 minutes late due to lightning. South Africa led 6-0 at halftime after two penalties from Ahmed. France narrowed the gap to 6-5 early in the second half but the Junior Boks held firm and extended their unbeaten run to 18 matches.

The result follows South Africa’s earlier 43-0 win over Wales in Durban on the same day. The Junior Boks also hold the Under-20 Rugby Championship title won earlier this season.
