A family in Kasarini, Kiambu County, seeks intervention after alleging senior government-linked officials are trying to seize their 248-acre farm. They report unknown actors surveilling and ambushing the property multiple times in recent weeks. The family has urged the Ministry of Lands to verify their title deed.
A family in Kasarini, Kiambu County, claims senior officials linked to the government are attempting to take over their 248-acre inherited farm, where they have lived since 1976.
Unknown groups have visited the property multiple times in recent weeks, allegedly surveilling it, ambushing residents, damaging items, and erecting fences to subdivide the land, the family reports.
“We believe there are goons that are trying to take over our land. They have come a number of times in various cars trying to scare us. We are living in fear, unsure of whether we will be attacked. They have already stolen the farm,” a family member said.
The intruders reportedly act for individuals with government connections and have allegedly opened separate land files with different registration numbers. “I am calling on the Ministry of Lands to intervene and show us whose title it is. It will then be revealed whether they acquired the title in violation of the law,” another family member said.
“You have your land and your title. Then someone goes and creates a separate file with a different registration number and proceeds to claim ownership of the property. It is fraud in broad daylight,” said lawyer Duncan Okatch. The family fears escalation without prompt intervention.
