KNEC invites teachers to train as KJSEA and KCSE examiners

The Kenya National Examinations Council has invited qualified teachers and tutors to apply for training as examiners for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams. The move follows the recent disbursement of Ksh1.5 billion in marking allowances for last year's exams.

The Kenya National Examinations Council announced the recruitment on Friday, July 10. Training will run from July to August 2026 in a blended format with online sessions followed by a residential physical component. Shortlisted applicants must pay a Ksh10,500 fee.

Applicants must be practising teachers or tutors registered with the Teachers Service Commission or Public Service Commission. They need at least a diploma in education, three years of teaching experience, a recommendation from their head of institution, and must be aged 50 or below with no ongoing disciplinary issues.

Successful trainees will mark papers for KJSEA subjects including English, Kiswahili and Mathematics, as well as KCSE subjects such as Biology Practical and Computer Studies. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed the Ksh1.5 billion payout to 2025 examiners had been completed.
