Leksand prepares for Sweden's largest Midsummer celebration

Planning for the Midsummer celebration in Leksand has been underway since February. The municipality binds flower wreaths and organizes the event at Gropen.

Leksand has hosted the Midsummer celebration at Gropen since 1939. The site has become known as an epicenter for the festivities with visitors from around the world.

Pär Ohlsson, culture chief in Leksands kommun, describes the town as the capital of Midsummer. He notes that a couple from Saudi Arabia recently visited the celebration on their honeymoon.

The municipality took over as main organizer in the 1970s. Staff and summer workers handle wreath binding along with preparations and cleanup.
