Uppsala names city library courtyard Humlegården

The inner courtyard of Uppsala's city library has been named Humlegården. The official inauguration takes place on 22 May with activities planned through spring and early summer.

The name aims to create a clear identity for the location and invite more visitors. The development forms part of Kulturlyftet with emphasis on broader participation and everyday culture.

Linda Eskilsson (MP) highlighted that Humlegården will offer culture, education and biodiversity in the city centre. Karin Hedvall, producer at Bibliotek Uppsala, hopes it becomes a natural meeting place fostering curiosity about diversity.

A garden week with programmes on cultivation and sustainability runs from 20–30 May. Stand-up nights and other events fill the schedule into June.
