In the eighth finals of the Nordic Open, Leo Borg, who received a wildcard as a home player, faced the 23-ranked Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the tournament's 2019 champion. Shapovalov took a convincing lead in the first set 6–2, but Borg stepped up in the second.
The 22-year-old Swede trailed 3–5 but won four straight games to secure the set 7–5 with an impressive comeback. A notable rally ended with a powerful forehand from Borg at 2–1 in the second set, drawing applause from the crowd in Kungliga Tennishallen. SVT commentator Johan Ejeborg exclaimed: “Tennis candy! Bang, just like that!” Tennis expert Magnus Gustafsson praised: “It's so fun to see him show what fine tennis he can play.”
In the third set, however, Shapovalov dominated and won 6–1, resulting in the final score of 6–2, 5–7, 6–1. After the match, Shapovalov commended his opponent: “Leo did well to stay in it, he played really, really well.” Borg is now out of the tournament. Shapovalov's next challenger will be the winner of Elias Ymer versus Jacob Fearnley.
