Robert Lewandowski has signed with the Chicago Fire on a two-year contract. The 37-year-old Polish striker joins as a free agent after his departure from Barcelona.
Chicago Fire confirmed the signing on June 29. Lewandowski will fill a Designated Player spot and an international roster spot.
Gregg Berhalter, the club's director of football and head coach, said the move aligns with the vision set by owner Joe Mansueto. "Robert embodies those values and represents the standards this city deserves," Berhalter stated.
The Fire currently sit third in the Eastern Conference. They hope Lewandowski can improve on last season's playoff exit.
Lewandowski previously played for Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, winning multiple league titles and the 2020 Champions League.
