A man evicted from social housing in Rennes rammed his car into his landlord’s office, tried to set it on fire, then killed himself. He died from his injuries on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The man rammed his car into the entrance of the Espacil Habitat office in Rennes. Armed with a gasoline canister, he lit six fires inside the building, which were quickly extinguished by emergency services.
Shortly afterwards he jumped from the second floor after cutting his throat. A letter stating his intention to end his life was found. Rennes public prosecutor Frédéric Teillet announced the facts in a statement.
The eviction from the housing had taken place on July 15 following a long procedure linked to the demolition of the building. All other residents had accepted relocation, unlike this man.
