Former Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe has unveiled the music video for 'Shinola,' the third single from his upcoming album 'Outerstellar.' The album is set for release on February 20 via Silver Lining Music. The track addresses themes of moral corruption and personal frustration.
Michael Monroe, known as the former frontman of Hanoi Rocks, is preparing to release his new studio album, 'Outerstellar,' on February 20 through Silver Lining Music. The album's third single, 'Shinola,' features an official music video directed by Paul M. Green. The song targets a 'morally corrupt emotional leech who exploits everyone in their orbit, only to reap the isolation they've sown,' described as a 'razor-sharp, crowd-rallying anthem' that channels exasperation into release.
Monroe commented on the track: "'Shinola' was obviously originally written about a certain jerk but unfortunately most of us can relate as we know a lot of them. There's a lot of negative, ignorant idiots in the world and sometimes it's good to vent frustrations by singing about it. And karma always gets us in the end anyway!"
Previous singles include 'Rockin' Horse' and 'Disconnected,' with music videos directed by Leigh Brooks. Monroe described 'Disconnected' as highlighting the irreplaceable value of live music: "Technology was supposed to bring people closer together, when, in fact, people are more disconnected than ever... The Internet can't take away the experience of being at a live show." For 'Rockin' Horse,' he noted it was a fun video featuring him without makeup for the first time.

Monroe's band includes Sami Yaffa on bass (formerly of Hanoi Rocks and New York Dolls), Steve Conte and Rich Jones on guitars, and Karl Rockfist on drums. To support the album, Monroe will co-headline a UK tour with Buckcherry, starting February 24, 2026, in Southampton at The 1865. Additional shows are scheduled across the UK, US, Finland, Sweden, and Spain through September 2026.
Monroe's previous solo album, 'I Live Too Fast To Die Young,' was released in 2022. In 2022, he celebrated his 60th birthday with a Hanoi Rocks reunion performance in Helsinki.
