Michelle Bachelet launches website for UN candidacy without Kast logo

Former President Michelle Bachelet unveiled a new website to boost her candidacy for UN Secretary-General, excluding the logo of José Antonio Kast's government. The move follows Chile's withdrawal of support announced on March 24. Brazil and Mexico continue backing the bid.

Michelle Bachelet, former Chilean president, launched a digital platform to advance her bid for the top UN position. The website omits the logo of the current government under José Antonio Kast, unlike the previous version released during Gabriel Boric's administration.

On March 24, Kast's government announced via the Foreign Ministry the withdrawal of official support for Bachelet's candidacy. The stated reason was the fragmentation of Latin American candidacies and differences with key players in the process, rendering success unlikely. Consequently, Chile's Foreign Ministry and embassies will stop promoting it, though Chile will abstain from supporting rivals if Bachelet continues.

Brazil, led by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Mexico, under Claudia Sheinbaum, still back the effort, with their logos featured prominently on the new site. It retains content like Bachelet's biography, key proposals for the UN, and video footage of Boric's announcement at the UN General Assembly on September 23, 2025, in New York.

The update signals the campaign's persistence despite La Moneda's decision, originally presented by Boric alongside Brazil and Mexico.
