Microsoft Paint introduces AI-generated coloring books

Microsoft has rolled out a new AI feature in Paint that lets users create coloring book pages from text prompts. The tool is currently available only to Windows Insiders on Copilot+ PCs. This update aims to demonstrate practical applications of AI in everyday software.

Microsoft Paint, the long-standing drawing app, now includes an AI-powered tool for generating coloring book images. Users can enter a text prompt, such as "a cute fluffy cat on a donut," and the AI will produce a set of varied black-and-white line art options suitable for coloring. Once selected, the image can be added to the canvas, copied, saved, or printed, potentially for children's activities.

This feature is part of a broader update exclusive to Windows Insiders using Copilot+ PCs. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has emphasized that AI must prove its value for long-term adoption, and this innovation highlights one such real-world use. Alongside the coloring book tool, Paint gains a fill tolerance slider, allowing finer control over how the Fill tool applies color to areas.

The updates extend beyond Paint. In Notepad, enhancements to the Write, Rewrite, and Summarize functions, powered by GPT integration, now deliver faster results. Users can interact with previews without waiting for complete outputs, though a Microsoft account is required for cloud-based features. These improvements are initially accessible to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels on Windows 11.

The rollout underscores Microsoft's push to embed AI into familiar tools, making advanced capabilities more accessible while testing them in controlled environments.
