MINSAL issues epidemiological alert over unusual Influenza B behavior

The Ministry of Health issued an epidemiological alert due to the unusual rise in Influenza B cases during the current period, according to the weekly Winter Campaign 2026 report.

The report for epidemiological week 25, between June 21 and 27, showed a positivity rate of 51.4% in analyzed samples. Influenza A remains the predominant virus with 25.9% of cases, while Influenza B reached 22.8%.

Jorge Vilches, head of Epidemiology, explained that the Ministry issued the alert to guide surveillance of respiratory viruses and clinical management of cases. The measure also seeks to promote vaccination in the community.

Influenza vaccination coverage reached 76.2%, with more than 7.9 million doses administered. Children, pregnant women and older adults maintain coverage below the 85% target.
