Mount Academy's Brooke Huleatt sets Section 9 indoor 200m record

Brooke Huleatt, a senior on Mount Academy’s girls indoor track and field team, set a Section 9 indoor record of 24.67 seconds in the 200-meter run on February 7 at the Purple Champions High School Invitational. This marks the first time a female athlete in Section 9 has run under 25 seconds in the event. Huleatt’s performance also ranks as the second-fastest time in the state this year.

The record-breaking run took place at the Nike Indoor Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York City. Huleatt surpassed the previous Section 9 indoor mark, which had stood for 15 years since being set at the New Balance Nationals.

Huleatt, who scored more than 100 goals for Mount Academy’s girls soccer team in the fall, demonstrated her versatility in track events. She already holds the Section 9 indoor record in the 300-meter run, achieving 38.83 seconds last year.

In the state rankings for the 200-meter this season, Huleatt trails only Baldwin High’s Breanne Barnett, who recorded 24.48 seconds. This achievement highlights Huleatt’s strong form heading into further competitions.

The Purple Champions High School Invitational provided a competitive platform for high school athletes, showcasing talents like Huleatt in indoor track and field.
