Tesla CEO Elon Musk visited the company's Fremont factory on July 1 to inspect progress on the Optimus humanoid robot production line. The visit included a team photo and a post confirming the line is operational. The space was previously used for Model S and Model X assembly.
Musk shared an image of himself standing with the Optimus production team inside the Fremont facility. Workers wore hard hats and safety vests during the walkthrough.
The conversion followed the end of Model S and Model X production in early May 2026. Crews installed new modular equipment over roughly four months to support robot manufacturing.
Musk stated that initial Optimus output will be extremely slow. He noted that the process differs from car production due to the robot's 10,000 unique parts.
Production is scheduled to begin in late July or August 2026. The line targets an eventual capacity of 1 million units per year.
