NDIC organises financial literacy campaign in Ebonyi

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation has held a financial literacy event for students at Urban Model Secondary School in Abakaliki as part of Global Money Week 2026.

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation organised the campaign to promote personal finance knowledge and awareness of bank deposit protection among young people in Ebonyi State. The programme, themed Small Money Talks, took place at Urban Model Secondary School in Abakaliki during activities marking the 2026 Global Money Week.

Mr Toke Afolayan, Principal Manager for Communication and Public Affairs at NDIC, said the initiative supports stability in the banking sector. He stated, Financial literacy is about acquiring the skills to make sound financial decisions. If you acquire what we describe as financial literacy, you should be able to know which bank to keep your money in instead of keeping it at home.

Shehu Umar-Mohammed, a Senior Manager at NDIC, explained that the corporation provides insurance cover for depositors in licensed banks and works with the Central Bank of Nigeria on mergers and acquisitions when needed. The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Dr Donatus Ilang, represented by Mr Igwe Nwuruku, and school principal Mr Paul Odigbo commended the effort.
