The BJP secured 89 seats, Janata Dal (United) 85, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) 5, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha 4. On November 19, Nitish Kumar resigned as chief minister and, after being elected NDA leader, staked claim to form the new government with the governor.
The oath-taking ceremony took place at Patna's historic Gandhi Maidan with tight security arrangements. The Special Protection Group (SPG), drone surveillance, 128 CCTVs, and over 2,500 security personnel were deployed. Attendees included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were sworn in as deputy chief ministers. The new cabinet is expected to include 16 ministers from BJP and 14 from JD(U). From BJP: Mangal Pandey, Renu Devi, and others; from JD(U): Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Shravan Kumar, and more. Ministers from other allies like LJPR's Raju Tiwari and HAM's Santosh Kumar Suman will also take oath.
Nitish Kumar's political journey has been marked by alliances shifts. He first became chief minister in 2000 for just seven days. In 2005, he allied with BJP; broke in 2013, joined Mahagathbandhan in 2015, returned to NDA in 2017, switched to Mahagathbandhan in 2022, and back to NDA in 2024. This marks his tenth term.
