Addis Ababa, Tikimt 13, 2018 (Fana Media Corporation) – Ethiopia's Immigration and Citizenship Service announced that more than 36,000 foreign nationals who overstayed their visas have been brought into legal status.
Director General Salawit Dawit told Fana Media Corporation that efforts are underway to encourage citizens from various countries visiting Ethiopia to respect the law. She observed that reform works in the sector are strengthening national capacity.
However, foreign nationals caught without visas at international and regional conferences in Addis Ababa were fined. The director stated that the visa service caters to users from 188 countries via on-arrival visas, featuring a 24-hour electronic system.
In connection with passport services, various adjustment measures have been implemented, and 26 legally summoned individuals have been held accountable. She affirmed preparations to issue 4 million passports in the current budget year.
