PDI investigates body found in Copiapó River

The PDI Homicide Brigade is investigating the discovery of a body in the Copiapó River in Tierra Amarilla. The victim, an adult Bolivian man, appears to have been swept away by the current during the frontal system.

Officials from the PDI Homicide Brigade and experts from the Regional Criminalistics Laboratory examined the site in the Pabellón Bajo sector. The inquiries established that there was no third-party intervention and that the possible cause of death is asphyxia by immersion, pending confirmation by autopsy.

Commissioner Andrés Bugueño stated that the victim was an agricultural worker who attempted to cross the river at night for unknown reasons. The body was found in the early morning of July 22.

Assistant prosecutor Guillermo Zárate Chacana indicated that the Regional Prosecutor's Office referred the case to the Victims and Witnesses Care Unit. The institution's operations continue without changes in the province of Copiapó.
