Polymarket said it will challenge a nationwide website block ordered by France’s National Gambling Authority. The company argued the order is disproportionate because trading from France has been disabled since November 2024.
France’s regulator ordered internet providers to block the platform last week, citing risks of illegal gambling, user losses, weak identity checks and potential market manipulation in weather-related contracts.
Polymarket described the move as surprising and said it prevents users from viewing market probabilities for informational purposes. The company stated it does not take the other side of trades or profit from outcomes, distinguishing its model from traditional gambling operators.
The dispute follows similar blocks in Ukraine in January, Argentina in March and Spain in May. Polymarket said it will pursue the matter through the French legal system.
