Pre-candidate Kalil skips PDT convention with Lula

Former Belo Horizonte mayor and PDT pre-candidate for Minas Gerais governor Alexandre Kalil did not attend the party's national convention that formalized support for President Lula's re-election.

The event took place on Monday (20/7) at the PDT headquarters in Brasília, attended by Lula, PDT national president Carlos Lupi and Social Security Minister Wolney Queiroz.

Kalil distanced himself from Lula after losing to Romeu Zema (Novo) in the Minas Gerais gubernatorial election in October 2022. In 2026 he is running again for the seat at Palácio da Liberdade.

PT president Edinho Silva attempted an alliance with Kalil, but the talks did not advance.
