Proteas women defeat India to build world cup momentum

The Proteas Women secured a 4-1 T20I series win against India, with captain Laura Wolvaardt scoring a record 330 runs. The victory provides momentum ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales.

The series concluded on 27 April at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. Wolvaardt, who had struggled with only 97 runs during a March tour of New Zealand, posted four half-centuries against India.

She attributed her improved form to a return to the top of the batting order and a clearer mindset. “Against India it just felt like everything clicked and I sort of found my flow back,” Wolvaardt told Daily Maverick.

The team showed progress in fielding and death bowling, though middle-order contributions beyond Wolvaardt and Suné Luus remained limited. South Africa opens its World Cup campaign against Australia on 13 June in Manchester.
