Puan Maharani urges government to explain non-subsidi fuel price hike

House Speaker Puan Maharani has urged the government to explain the reasons behind Pertamina's non-subsidi fuel price increase effective April 18, 2026. She seeks clarity on how long the hike will last and mitigation steps for the Iran-US conflict impact. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that non-subsidi prices follow global markets.

Jakarta – House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has called on the government to be transparent about the non-subsidi fuel (BBM) price increase. She made the statement to reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (April 22, 2026).

"Regarding the fuel price with the existing increase, there must be fairness and an explanation of why the price rose and until when," Puan said. She added, "Whether the price will continue to rise or not, and this evaluation must be conveyed periodically."

Puan urged preparations to mitigate the impact of the Iran-US war on Indonesian fuel prices. "Whether this war will continue or stop. However, as a country not directly affected, we must still be ready to anticipate and mitigate possible occurrences," she said.

PT Pertamina raised Pertamax Turbo to Rp19,400 per liter (from Rp13,100), Dexlite to Rp23,600 (from Rp14,200), and Pertamina Dex to Rp23,900 (from Rp14,500) effective April 18, 2026, in DKI Jakarta. Pertamax RON92 remains at Rp12,300, Pertamax Green Rp12,900, while subsidized Pertalite is Rp10,000 and Biosolar Rp6,800.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia explained the hike follows global oil prices per 2022 regulations. "The government regulates subsidized BBM, while non-subsidi follows market prices," he said. Netizens showed mixed reactions, with some complaining and others understanding the market mechanism.
