Rappler is hosting a one-day hands-on workshop titled 'Teaching and Thinking in the Age of AI' for Filipino educators, education advocates, and professionals. The event will take place at the Rappler newsroom on November 29, 2025, to guide the responsible integration of generative AI in classrooms. It aims to preserve critical thinking and human-centered learning amid AI's transformation of education and work.
As generative AI reshapes how Filipinos work, communicate, and learn, Rappler recognizes the need for responsible integration in education. Through its learning platform RappLearn, it is organizing a workshop that provides foundational knowledge on AI, practical exercises, and discussions on maintaining critical thinking.
The session, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be led by Gemma Mendoza, Rappler’s head of digital services and an award-winning investigative journalist focused on fact-checking and digital literacy, and Don Kevin Hapal, head of data and innovation at The Nerve, a digital forensics consultancy stemming from Rappler’s disinformation investigations. Mendoza has pioneered projects linking journalism, data, and citizen action, while Hapal specializes in AI strategy and disinformation risks.
The agenda includes: 'AI, the Future of Work, and Our Students' to connect teaching with the modern workplace; 'Demystifying Generative AI' to explain its workings; a hands-on lab using AI tools; 'Protecting Critical Thinking in the AI Era' against potential risks; and quick takeaways for practical application.
Rappler draws from its own AI experiences, including the chatbot Rai with strong editorial guardrails and its Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing that AI should not replace human judgment or ethical decisions.
Open to individuals or groups, the fee is ₱15,000 per person, with early bird rates until November 16 and discounts for five or more participants. Register by November 28 via the form, or email learn@rappler.com for more information.
