The Professional Footballers Union hired lawyers and is arranging meetings with authorities to regularize 114 players lacking valid work permits.
The SIFUP announced the hiring of a team of migration lawyers after it was revealed that 114 of the 267 foreign footballers in Chile lack valid work authorization. President Luis Marín stated that the players face daily difficulties such as being unable to open bank accounts or make transfers.
Marín met on Friday with deputy Marisela Santibáñez, chair of the Chamber's Sports Commission. The union also requested a meeting with National Migration Service director Frank Sauerbaum to seek a special window to streamline procedures.
The leader criticized the ANFP's lack of oversight and noted that the situation affects the players' daily lives. “We come across athletes who are keeping money under the mattress,” he said.
